QUEBEC CITY -- Laval jumped into a commanding three-goal lead, then survived a second-half scare to hold on for a 3-2 victory over visiting McGill on Sunday, in RSEQ men's soccer at Stade Telus UL. The five goals tied for the second-highest output in the league's 12 games played this season.

The undefeated Rouge et Or, who improved to 3-0, received first-half goals from Gino Temguia and Bastien Aussems in the 23rd and 41st minutes, respectively. The Rouge et Or seemed poised to dominate the second half when Charles Joly made it 3-0 in the 59th minute but McGill refused to go down without a fight.

Mehdi Ibn-Brahim, a 5-foot-6, 155-pound striker from Montreal, put the Redmen on the board in the 61st minute, and Michael Makepeace, a 6-foot, 178-pound forward from England, narrowd the gap to one just three minutes later. Rookie defender Benjamin Joanette-Pilon of Montreal assisted on both goals.

The Redmen had a 14-12 margin in attempted shots, a 15-2 edge in corner kicks and a 13-12 advantage in fouls.

McGill goalkeeper Antoine Marchal of Montreal took the loss and registered one save, while his Rouge et Or counterpart, Nizar Houhou, stopped two for the win.

Temguia merited Game MVP honours for Laval, while midfielder Roberto Bonalumi of Italy earned the award for the Redmen.

McGill (1-2-1) hosts UQAM (2-1-0) on Thursday, Sept. 21 with an 8:15 p.m. kickoff  at Percival Molson Stadium. Laval (3-0-0) will visit winless Sherbrooke (0-4-0) on Sept. 22.
