Cam McGee scored 18 points and senior
Colton Weisbrod added a dozen more as the Lamar University Cardinals rallied from an early eight-point deficit to defeat McGill 57-50 in men's preseason basketball at Banco National Arena in Costa Rica, Tuesday.
Lamar, an NCAA Div. 1 program based in Beaumont, Texas, posted a 19-15 overall record last year, including a 10-8 sixth-place finish in the 13-team Southland Conference.
In a game that featured eight lead changes, McGill jumped into an early 20-12 advantage but watched as Lamar narrowed the gap to 20-16 after the opening quarter and 30-29 at the half. Lamar finally wrestled away the lead with a 47-40 margin after three. The final quarter was even at 10-10.
The Cardinals used a significant height advantage to hold a 42-28 margin in rebounds.
Senior
Noah Daoust was the only member of the Redmen to reach double figures with 10 points. Freshman
Jamal Mayali and senior
Avery Cadogan added nine and eight, respectively. Cadogan, who potted a career-high 30 points in a win over Kent State the night before, was the only player to foul out.
Rounding out the scoring for McGill were newcomers

Alex Paquin and
Arnaud Boyer-Cillis with six points apiece. Sophomore
Edgar Brown had three and senior
Jenning Leung two.
McGill shot 38 per cent from the field (20/53) and 24 per cent from the three-point arc (6/25) and drained just four of 12 free-throws. The Cardinals shot 39 per cent (19/49) from the floor and 29 per cent from downtown. They only made 13 of 24 from the foul-line.
The Redmen dropped to 1-1 on their international tour and 1-4 in preseason play. They will continue their challenging schedule -- which features four games in four nights -- with back-to-back matchups against the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) on Wednesday and Thursday.
The Cardinals completed their four-day trip with a 2-0 record, including an 87-57 decision over the Costa Rican national team on Monday.
