LENNOXVILLE, Que. -- Freshman
Ariane Ducharme of Notre Dame des Prairies, Que., scored a late goal as McGill salvaged a 1-1 draw with last-place Bishop's in RSEQ women's soccer at Coulter Field on Sunday. The Martlets now hold a 51-0-2 record over the Gaiters since Bishop's joined the league in 1992.
Ducharme, a 5-foot-4 striker, saved the day for McGill in the 88th minute to keep the Martlets' playoff hopes alive in a tight five-way battle for the third and fourth positions.
McGill had a massive 22-1 advantage in shot attempts and an 8-0 margin in corner kicks, while the Gaiters had an 8-7 edge in fouls drawn.
Despite the lopsided opportunities, Bishop's capitalized on its only chance when, in the 49th minute,
Frédérique Rivard put the hosts ahead.
Sarah Dubois of Edmonton was in goal for McGill and faced only one shot. Her Gaiters counterpart,
Mehana Heins, made nine saves at the other end of the field.
Laurelie Boucher-Gould, a freshman midfielder from Ste. Therese, Que., was named Game MVP for the Martlets, while
Aidan McGillis earned the honours for Bishop's.
McGill (3-5-4) hosts Concordia (2-6-4) at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27 at Percival Molson Stadium. The Gaiters (1-8-3) visit Sherbrooke (4-6-2) that same evening.
