MONTREAL -- Sophomore
Samuel Tremblay of St. Hubert, Que., scored the game-winner as No.5 ranked McGill defeated Brock 3-2 in OUA men's hockey, at McConnell Arena, Saturday.
Despite the tight score the Redmen dominated throughout, outshooting the toothless Badgers 52-23 overall, including a lopsided 26-4 advantage in the first period, which ended with both teams scoring once. The Redmen led 2-1 after two and both sides tallied once in the final frame.
Senior goaltender
Clint Windsor , a 6-foot-4, 215-pound product of the Ottawa 67s, made 49 saves on 52 shots in a losing cause for Brock. He was pulled for the extra attacker with 50 seconds remaining but the Badgers failed to capitalize.
Tremblay, a 5-foot-11, 171-pound right winger, notched the eventual game-winner 2:11 into the third period.
Alexandre Sills of Amos, Que., had opened the scoring at 4:26 of the first. It was his sixth goal in as many games
Adam Lloyd tied things up for the Badgers at 8:43 but
Guillaume Gauthier of Drummondville, Que., restored McGill's lead at 7:12 of the second period. Tremblay's third-stanza tally put the Redmen ahead 3-1 until Brock's
Evan Morden made it 3-2 with a short-handed marker at 7:25.
McGill netminder
Joe Fleschler turned away 21 shots to earn the win.
Both teams were perfect on the penalty kill, with the Redmen neutralizing five opportunities and Brock erasing all six McGill chances.
McGill, which leads the OUA East with a 5-1-0 record, is on the road next weekend, playing at Queen's (3-0-1) on Oct. 27, followed by Ottawa (2-1-1) on Oct. 28. The Badgers (0-3-1) take on Windsor (1-2-1) that same evening.
