MONTREAL -- Goalkeeper Cassandra Fafalios of Richmond Hill, Ont., posted a stellar six-save shutout as McGill battled the visiting UQAM Citadins to a 0-0 draw in RSEQ women's soccer, Friday, at Percival Molson Stadium.

It was the first "clean sheet" of the regular season for Fafalios, a 5-foot-7 political science senior. UQAM goalkeeper Jessica Lebrasseur stopped three shots for her whitewash..

"Although I'm disappointed we didn't win, it was a respectable result for us against a pretty good team," said McGill head coach Jose-Luis Valdes, who troops are limping along without four injured starters. "We were a little disorganized over the first 30 minutes of the game but we managed to re-adjust defensively to eliminate the effectiveness of the UQAM midfielders, which gave us momentum heading into halftime. The second half was fairly even with both sides getting good opportunities but the 'keepers made good saves at both ends."

McGill had a 5-4 edge in corners and committed six fouls, compared to eight by the Citadins, which had a 6-3 edge in shots. Striker Claudia Agozzino of St. Leonard, Que., accounted for all three McGill shots on net in the contest, an offensive thrust that was matched by Marie-Yasmine Alidou D'Anjou of the Citadins.

Both teams next play on Oct. 2, when the Martlets (2-2-2) visit Bishop's (0-5-1) and UQAM (3-2-1) travels to UQTR (0-6-1).

MARTLET MURMURS: Injured defenders Zoe Fasoulakis and Anais Robert, both seniors, are expected back over the next week or two... Midfielder Alexandra Tinfow and striker Audrey-Ann Coughlan are both confirmed to be out for the year with knee injuries.
