MONTREAL -- Maude Leblanc scored the winning goal as the No.6-ranked Montreal Carabins topped McGill 3-1 in RSEQ women's soccer at Stade CEPSUM, Thursday, extending their unbeaten record to 7-0-1.

Montreal had an 8-3 lead in shots, a massive 10-0 advantage in corners, and committed 12 fouls, compared to just six by the Martlets.

"We never happy when we lose but despite that, we played a good game against a strong side," said McGill head coach Jose-Luis Valdes. "We were ready to play from the start and improved as the game went on. The only area where they had a big advantage over us was on corner kicks but we defended those quite well."

Leïla Boudjelal put the Carabins on the board in the 13th minute before Daphnee Morency of Boulder, Col., evened the score with a header in the 28th minute.

Leblanc's winning strike came of a disputed play where she was awarded a free kick in the 45th minute to give UdeM a 2-1 lead heading into the intermission.

The only goal of the second half came in the 56th minute, when McGill pushed hard and were caught out of position leading to an insurance marker by Jacynthe Tessier.

Carabins goalkeeper Catherine Ouellet made two saves on three shots for the win while Cassandra Fafalios, a 5-foot-7 senior from Richmond Hill, Ont., stopped five of eight shots in a losing effort.

Both teams return to the pitch on Oct. 14, when McGill (3-3-2) hosts UQTR (0-7-1) at 7 p.m. at Percival Molson Stadium. The Carabis (7-0-1) will visit Laval (7-0-1) in a first-place battle between the league's only undefeated squads.
