TORONTO --
Abrie Girgis scored the game-winner as Queen's defeated McGill 3-1 to close out the OUA women's field hockey regular season, Sunday, at the U of T Back Campus field.
It was the fourth consecutive setback for the Martlets.
Girgis, a midfielder from Ottawa, tallied her goal in the 40th minute, after teammate
Taylor Harrington had opened scoring in the 33rd minute with the only goal of the first half.
Sophie Kinley added a 50th-minute insurance marker for the Gaels.
International business sophomore
Kasey Boyle of Victoria scored off a penalty corner in the 68th minute to put the Martlets on the board. Boyle tallied three of the team's four markers over the season.
Goalkeeper
Clara Gatien claimed the win for Queen's, while
Hannah Moore of Chelsea, Mich., took the loss for McGill.
Despite finishing last in the OUA standings with an 0-11-1 record, the Martlets will advance to the OUA championship tournament, hosted by Western University from Oct. 28-30 at TD Stadium in London, Ont. The two OUA finalists will advance to the CIS championship, hosted by Toronto, Nov. 3-6.
