MONTREAL -- Goalkeeper
Cassandra Fafalios registered a career-high 13-save shutout as visiting McGill battled the undefeated Montreal Carabins to a 0-0 draw in RSEQ women's soccer at Stade CEPSUM, Sunday.
The third-year physical education major from Richmond Hill, Ont., was like an inpenetrable fortress in the McGill net and was selected by the opposing coaches as McGill's player of the game.
Josee-Anne Nantel-Legault earned the shutout for the Carabins, who outshot McGill by a lopsided 13-2 margin.
The game featured a combined 25 fouls, including 16 to the Carabins who were also issued and a pair of yellow cards.
"Although the objective is always to win, I was happy with a 0-0 score on the road, especially against the Carabins," said McGill head coach
Jose-Luis Valdes. "We committed too many turnovers for my liking but our backline and goalkeeper was severely tested this weekend against two strong teams (Laval and Montreal) and we can learn from that experience."
Montreal, which had a 7-1 advantage in cornerkicks, improved their unblemished record to 3-0-3 and remained tied atop the RSEQ standings with Laval (5-0-1) and Sherbrooke (5-0-1).
McGill improved their record to 3-2-1 and sits fourth in the eight team Quebec league, two points behind the Carabins and four ahead of fifth-place UQAM.
The Martlets will play at Bishop's on Oct. 2, followed by a home game against UQTR on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 6 p.m.
