Emilie Matte de Grasse scored 13 points as McGill opened their trip to the Maritimes with a 3-0 sweep over Saint Mary's at the Homburg Centre on Friday, in the second interlocking tournament of the season between the RSEQ and AUS conferences.
The set scores were 25-15, 25-12 and 25-18. The result snapped a two-game losing streak for the Martlets (8-2), who slipped four spots to No.7 in the CIS national rankings this week.
The Martlets had a lopsided 33-14 margin in kills, a 13-4 advantage in aces and a 65-59 difference in digs as they improved to 5-3 lifetime against the Huskies since interlocking play began in 2008-09.
Matte de Grasse had eight kills, five service aces and five digs. Teammate
Catherine Amyot added a game-high nine kills along with 17 digs.
Other key contributers included
Marie-Eve Dorion and
Myriam Robitaille. Dorion collected five kills, a pair of aces and eight digs, while Robitaille registered five kills, two aces and a pair of digs.
SMU's top scorer was
Erin Smith, who only had five points, with three kills and two aces.
McGill will play Dalhousie in the second half of the tourney doubleheader, at 2 p.m. this afternoon.
