MONTREAL -- Defender Patrick Fusarini came off the bench to score the winning goal in the 81st minute as McGill rallied with two markers in the final 22 minutes to clip Concordia 2-1 in RSEQ men's university soccer at Molson Stadium, Sunday.

Nick Sisti had given the Stingers a 1-0 lead in the 41st minute but McGill sophomore Massimo Di Ioia of Blainville, Que., came off the bench to knot the count at 1-1 in the 68th minute with his second goal of the season. Di Ioia, a speedy, 5-foot-7, 154-pound striker who led the team with seven goals last year, then set up Fusarini, an electrical engineering junior, for the winning tally.

"The Di Ioia goal was the turning point with a amazing shot, a top quality finish from 35 yards out," said McGill head coach Marc Mounicot. "He was due for a good performance because his scoring output had not been as high as we had come to expect of him.

"It was a huge win, coming from behind like that," added Mounicot, who made an astonishing five substitutions after a lethargic first half by his troops. "We had to wake up the team but more importantly to bring more offence to the pitch.
 
"A number of our players were strong today, especially Marc Palaci-Olgun who played a solid 70 minutes. Max Leblond made some key stops in our net -- first to keep us in the game and then later to preserve our lead. Also, Valentin Radevich had probably his best game for the Redmen this year. Overall the team bounced back very well after a disappointing loss to UQTR last Friday. We showed resilience and good team spirit."

McGill had a 22-12 edge in attempted shots but only a 7-6 margin on target. Leblond was credited with the win, making five saves between the pipes for McGill. Wes Aucoin made five saves in a losing cause for ConU.

The victory put McGill into third place with a 4-3-0 record and within striking distance of division-leading UQAM (4-1-2), who sit just two points ahead. Five games remain before post-season action begins. The Redmen will host a critical match-up against second-place Laval (3-0-4) on Oct. 3 at Molson Stadium. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m., followiing the women's contest.

The last-place Stingers fell to 0-3-4 and will look for their first victory when they host UQTR (1-4-2) on Oct. 3.
