QUEBEC CITY -- Melissande Guy scored the game-winner in the 55th minute and Marie-Joelle Vandal made two saves for the shutout as the Laval Rouge et Or blanked visiting McGill 1-0 in RSEQ women's soccer at Stade Telus-UL, Friday.
 
"Laval made it very difficult for us to maintain possession and build any kind of rhythm in the first half," said McGill head coach Jose-Luis Valdes.  Our goaltender had a very strong performance and kept us in the game.  We were happy to be tied 0-0 at halftime, given the way Laval was pressing." 
 
After the halftime break, McGill came out strong and dominated the next 25 minutes.  

"The second half was a completely different game and I was happy to see us take control, which gave our defenders a breather and a chance to get up field. We were determined to keep Laval on their heels. Their 'keeper made a key save and their defenders shut us down on more than a few opportunities.  An unfortunate turnover near our net resulted in the Laval goal.  We pushed, had chances but could not capitalize."

Goalkeeper Cassandra Fafalios made seven saves in in a losing cause for McGill.

McGill, which dropped into fourth place with a 2-2-1 record, will travel to the other side of Mt. Royal on Sunday to take on the division-leading Montreal Carabins (4-0-1) on Sunday at 3 p.m., while Laval (4-1-0) will host UQAM (1-1-3).
