MONTREAL -- Lisa-Marie Pelletier of Lorraine, Que., took advantage of two penalty kicks and connected on both as the visiting UQAM Citadins rallied twice to salvage a 2-2 draw with McGill in women's soccer at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium, Friday.

It was the third tie in three games for UQAM, a team that was dominated by the Martlets, who had a commanding 30-5 edge in shots attempted, including an 18-3 margin on net. But they were stymied time and time again by UQAM goaltender Valerie L'Abbe, a 5-foot-9 senior and former McGill 'keeper from Laval, Que., who was credited with a whopping 16 saves.

"Valerie played a great game but always plays well against us," said McGill head coach Jose-Luis Valdes. "Three of her saves were quite spectacular, where she made an initial stop, the ball bounced off the post and she had to recover to make a follow-up save.

"It was frustrating for us because we didn't get the result we were looking for. But if we look at what we did in practice all week and what we did in the game, we played well defensively and had a ton of scoring chances. We hit a number of goalposts and they also made saves from rebounds off the post. So we are doing things in our style of game that I like, especially compared to the way we started last year."

In the 2013 campaign, McGill got off to a disappointing 1-2-0 start and were outscored 4-1 in those contests, compare to this year's 1-1-1 start, where they have outscored opponents 7-6.

Claudia Agozzino, a civil engineering freshman from St. Leonard, Que., gave McGill an early 1-0 lead in just the fourth minute, then set up sophomore Alexandra Tinfow of Westfield, N.J., to put the Martlets ahead 2-1 in the 32nd minute.

"Claudia has been consistent since Day 1," noted Valdes. "She's threatening in the middle, can play and pass the ball well, and whenever she has space, she takes a shot. She is very composed and always looks to make the best play possible."

But Pelletier, who is completing a master's degree in sexology, tied the game each time for the Citadins. She connected in the 21st and 62nd minutes, both on penalty shots.

"Both calls were fouls inside the box but one of them probably wouldn't get called in most games," admitted Valdes."Yes there was contact (by our defender) but there was embellishment (by the UQAM forward) as well. It's kind of frustrating because we've had three penalty shots called against us in the past three games."

Cassandra Fafalios took the loss between the pipes for McGill. The 5-foot-7 sophomore from Richmond Hill, Ont., was credited with one save on three shots.

McGill, which dropped to 1-1-1, will host Bishop's (0-2-0) on Sunday, Sept. 14, at 1 p.m. UQAM (0-0-3) will host Concordia (1-1-0) the same day.

NOTE: Traffic will be difficult around Molson Stadium on Sunday due to the Grand Prix bicycle race. Parc Avenue will be closed and the best access to the Stadium by car will be via the west gate entrance on University Street.
