Nathan Joyal, a senior from St. Lazare, Que., scored a game-high 12 points as the No.6-ranked McGill men's basketball team cruised to a 63-56 road victory over Concordia in the regular season finale, Saturday.
The division-leading Redmen finished atop the RSEQ conference with a stellar 14-2 record, the matching the second-highest regular-season win total in school history and the most since a 14-1 mark in 1976-77. The only time in team history that the Redmen collected more wins in league play was in 1971-72, when they posted a 16-5 record in the old QUAA conference.
McGill will open defence of the league title won last year when they travel to Quebec City for the RSEQ Final Four championship tournament at the Centre PEPS, March 1-2. The Redmen will meet fourth-place Laval (6-10) in a sudden-death semifinal scheduled for Saturday at 3 p.m. Third-place Concordia (8-8) plays second-place Bishop's (9-7) on Saturday at 1 p.m. The men's final is slated for Sunday at 3 p.m.
