SHERBROOKE --
Marie-Eve Jacques, a sophomore striker from Sherbrooke, Que., scored three times as the Sherbrooke Vert & Or blanked McGill 3-0 in RSEQ women's university soccer, Sunday.
Jacques, who was named player of the game for the Vert & Or, scored the game-winner in the 42nd. She made it 2-0 in the 54th minute and completed her hat-trick in injury time.
Sherbrooke, which finished second to Montreal in the conference standings last year with a 10-3-1 record, had a 5-2 edge in shots on net as senior goalkeeper
Elena Waldispuehl, a native of Switzerland, made two saves to register the shutout.
McGill had the edge in time of possession and a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
"The score does not really represent how the game was played," said McGill head coach
Jose-Luis Valdes. "The stats give a better idea and the last goal came as we pushed many bodies forward. We started well and had a few chances early on and then again half way into the game. We were more efficient at getting into goal-scoring position but were not able to finish."
"We limited Sherbrooke to very few attacks but all three of their goals were scored on fast counters. We will need to make a couple of adjustments to avoid being vulnerable to quick counters."

Victoria Muccilli was saddled with the loss for McGill, conceding three goals on five shots.
Carolyn Bell, a fifth-year defender from West Vancouver, B.C., received Game MVP honours for the Martlets.
McGill, which dropped to 0-2, will host winless UQTR (0-2) on Friday (Sept. 13) at Molson Stadium. Sherbrooke (2-0) plays at Laval (2-0) the same day.
