MONTREAL --
Daphnee Morency-Roussin converted a pass from
Rebecca Green at the 37-minute mark as visiting McGill blanked Concordia 1-0 in women's university soccer at Concordia Stadium, Sunday.
The result extended McGill's undefeated streak to 5-0-1 after opening the season with back-to-back losses and more importantly, it all but assured a playoff berth in the eight-team RSEQ conference. With six games remaining before the post season, the Martlets opened up a 10-point lead on fifth-place Concordia (2-6-0) and Bishop's (2-6-0).

Cassandra Fafalios got the start and was called upon to make only one save to register the shutout as the Martlets had a 4-1 edge in shots on net. Saby Dagenais made three saves for the Stingers and took the loss.
The cross-town rivals combined to draw 22 fouls and two yellow cards, both issued to Concordia.
"It was a difficult game for us," said McGill head coach
Jose-Luis Valdes. "Concordia was very physical and we had a hard time adjusting but fought hard for the win. Little things can make the difference and Rebecca made a nice play on the winning goal, sliding the ball through the box, behind the defender to Daphnee who was charging in from the far side."
The Martlets, who improved to 5-2-0, will face a much stiffer test in their next game on Oct. 4, when they travel across town to meet the Montreal Carabins, who sit second in the league with a 6-1-1 record. Kick-off is set for 6:30 p.m.
