MONTREAL -- Meghan Bourque, a third-year striker from Burlington, Ont., scored in the 77th minute to propel the McGill women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over visiting UQTR at Molson Stadium, Friday.

Bourque's header from a free kick by defender Kelsey Wilson, redirected off a Patriotes player and past 'keeper Gabrielle Lambert, a native of St. Hyacinthe, Que., who registered six saves in a losing cause.

"We made it difficult for ourselves by the way we played in the first half," said new head coach Jose-Luis Valdes, who merited his first regular-season victory in three attempts behind the McGill bench. "But we made some key adjustments at halftime and spent most of the second half in the offensive zone. We came out of halftime with a a much-improved attitude and it paid off."

Victoria Muccilli, a history senior from Mississauga, Ont., made four saves between the pipes to collect the shutout for McGill.

The Martlets (1-2) will host Concordia (1-2) on Sunday afternoon in a late 7 p.m. kickoff. The game was moved to the evening start time in order to accomodate the annual Tour de l'isle Grand Prix cycling race which will dominate the Montreal streets around Mont Royal for much of the morning and most of the afternoon.

UQTR, which fell to 0-3 in the eight-team RSEQ conference, plays at UQAM (0-3) at Stade Hebert on Sunday at 3 p.m.
