MONTREAL -- Goalkeeper Victoria Muccilli made three saves for a shutout but the McGill women's soccer team had to settle  for a 0-0 draw against  the No.4-ranked Montreal Carabins at Stade CEPSUM, Friday.

Carabins 'keeper Martine Julien was also credited with three saves for a shutout.

It was almost a predictable result as the bitter cross-town rivals both own the top two defensive records in the eight-team Quebec league, with McGill allowing just six goals in nine games compared to the Carabins, who have conceded eight.

The Carabins, however, had a territorial advantage with an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.

"We played a very good game for the entire 90 minutes," said Jose-Luis Valdes, head coach of the Martlets.  "These types of games are the ones we work so hard for.  I am not happy with the amount of corner kicks that we gave up but the defending was clean on everyone of them."
 
McGill, which sits third in the RSEQ standings with a 5-2-2 record, remains three points in arrears of the second-place Carabins (6-1-2). The Martlets are just one point ahead of fourth-place Sherbrooke (5-2-1) and will host the Vert et Or in a key matchup at Molson Stadium, Sunday. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
