MONTREAL-
Meghan Bourque of Burlington, Ont., netted a hat-trick as the McGill women's soccer team cruised to a 5-0 victory over Bishop's on "seniors night" at Molson Stadium, Friday.
Kelsey Wilson, a senior defender from Pincourt, Que., and
Rebecca Green of Green's Harbour, NL., added the other goals for the fourth-place Martlets, who improved to 8-3-2 in the eight-team RSEQ conference with one game remaining before playoffs.
The Martlets dominated the game from start to finish outshooting the Gaiters 10-0.
Goalkeeper
Victoria Muccilli, a senior from Scarborough, Ont., was credited with the win but had to share the shutout with freshman Cassandra Fafallos of Richmond Hill, Ont, who relieved her at the 60-minute mark.
Before the game, head coach
Jose-Luis Valdes honoured his four graduating seniors, who were suiting up for their last regular season game at home, including the aforementioned Wilson and Muccilli, in addition to
Selena Colarossi from Burlington, Ont.,
Carolyn Bell from West Vancouver, B.C., and
Stephanie Avery of Tsawwassen, B.C., who set up a pair of goals. Each player was presented with a commemorative photo portrait and late in the game, were subbed off to a warm round of applause from the crowd.
"We recognized our five graduating players and emotions were very high to start the game," said McGill head coach
Jose-Luis Valdes. "It took a few minutes to get settle into the game, then our play became more fluid and we started moving the ball around the way we like to do. We did a good job of maintaining possession, moved forward consistently and did not allow one shot on goal. Our substitution off the bench maintained our momentum and even increased the rhythm of play which was nice to see, especially on such a cold night."
McGill, which can finish anywhere from second to fourth, kept their mathematical chances of hosting a playoff game alive. They will close out the regular season on the road, Sunday at 3 p.m., when they battle second-place Laval (9-3-1) in Quebec City. the game is slated to be webcast live at:

The other team in the race for home-field advantage is Sherbrooke (9-3-1), which is tied with Laval in the standings. Sherbrooke plays at fifth-place Concordia (5-8-0) on Sunday afternoon.
