It was the fourth straight win for McGill, which improved to 5-2, while the cellar-dwelling Gaiters dropped to 0-7.
Sylla, a 6-foot-1 centre from Guinea, scored 17 points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds. She shot 4-for-10 from the field and made nine of 10 free-throws.
Bailey Trafford, a 5-foot-10 forward from Centreville, N.B., paced the Gaiters with a game-high 18 points, shooting 5-for-8 from the field and 8-for-8 from the line.
Sophomore
Gabriela Hebert of Chicoutimi, Que., and Panama native
Anneth Him-Lazarenko, who was raised in Ste. Dorothee, Que., also reached double figures in scoring, with the former collecting 15 points and the latter adding 10. Hebert was the only McGill player to score from three-point range, going 3-for-3.
McGill led 18-16 after the first quarter but gave the boot to the Gaiters in the second stanza, outscoring them by a lopsided 21-7 margin for a 39-23 halftime lead. The Martlets jumped into a 57-33 lead after three quarters before making liberal substitutions in the final quarter, which resulted in all 10 McGill players getting at least 10 minutes of playing time. Nine different Martlets registered points in the game.
McGill, which had a mammoth 40-23 edge in rebounding and a 14-7 margin in steals, shot 40.4 per cent from the floor (23/57), 27.3 from three-point range (3/11) and an impressive 81.0 from the charity stripe (17/21), compared to Bishop's, which shot 34.0, 26.3 and 93.3 (14/15), respectively.
The Martlets sit second in the RSEQ conference, only two points back of division-leading UQAM (6-2) and will have a chance to move into a first-place tie with the Citadins when they host them on Saturday at 6 p.m. in the nightcap of a men's and women's doubleheader at Love Competition Hall. It will mark one of the few times in McGill history that a men's contest precedes the women.
Bishop's will try to break their winless streak when they play at Concordia (5-2) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
