Redmen Soccer vs UQTR (Away)

TROIS-RIVIERES - Valentin Seger scored in the 50th minute as UQTR salvaged a 1-1 draw with the visiting McGill men's soccer team on Sunday.
The Redmen, who held an 8-3 edge in shots on net, had taken a 1-0 lead just before halftime when Winston Pool converted a pass from rookie Stefano Carter in the 40th minute
The result left McGill third in the seven-team RSEQ conference with a 1-1-2 record. It was the first point of the season for the last-place Patriotes, who improved to 0-1-1.
Goalkeeper Max Leblond was credited with a pair of saves for the tie in the Redmen net, while Raphael Belanger-Vaillancourt stood on his head with seven saves for the Pats.
"We had a number of youngsters in the starting lineup today and had a hard time finding a rhythm," said first-year McGill head coach Jose Valdes, whose troops had to overcome the loss of co-captains Jeremy Hurdle and Alexis Pradié, an all-Canadian defender. Both suffered undisclosed injuries in a 1-1 draw at Concordia last Friday but are expected to be back in the lineup soon.
"We seemed to be in control for a good part of the first half but the Patriotes played very well in the last half and we lacked some intensity without our veteran leaders."
McGill will now focus on their first of two meetings with the archrival Montreal Carabins (1-2-0), who will visit Percival Molson Stadium on Thursday for a "Pack the Field Night" promotion. The rivalry with the Carabins is as fierce as they come, as they are coached by former Redmen bench boss Pat Raimondo, who guided McGill to their last national championship in 1997. Kick-off is set for 8:30 pm.
