Redmen Soccer vs Queen's (at Old Four Tournament; Away)

Won 2-1 vs Queen's (EXHIBITION)

TORONTO -- Team captain Jeremy Hurdle of Ambler, Penn., netted the winning marker in the 69th minute as the McGill University men's soccer team edged Queen's 2-1 to claim the bronze medal match of the Old Four preseason tournament at Varsity Centre on the U of T campus, Sunday.

McGill freshman Marc Palaci-Olgun, a Montrealer, notched the opening goal in the 13th minute of play. Gaels striker Eric Koskins scored Queen's lone goal of the two-day tourney in the 88th minute.

Sophomore `keeper Charles Kelly of Gloucester, Mass, allowed one goal and collected the win in relief of rookie starter Thomas Daechsel who blanked the Gaels in his debut at the CIS level.

"Despite making a large amount of substitutions, we were still able to maintain a good level of play,`said first-year McGill head coach Jose Valdes, who made nine subs in the game, eight of them in the second half. "We lost a little rhythm over a small period of time but that's only normal.

In the gold medal match, the Blues took the game to penalty kicks for the second consecutive day and came away with a 2-1 decision. Toronto's Mario Kovacevic and Western's Dominic Bell exchanged goals early in the second half with regulation ending in a 1-1 draw. A missed penalty kick by Western'sPat Mroczek left U of T with a 5-4 advantage for the win.
