TROIS-RIVIERES -- Defender Kelsey Wilson, a freshman from Pincourt, Que., converted a direct free kick in the final minute of the opening half as McGill blanked host UQTR 1-0 in women's indoor soccer, Sunday.
The win moved McGill into a first-place tie with the Montreal Carabins. Both teams sit atop the eight-team Quebec league with an identical 3-0-1 record.
"Kelsey has a wonderful technical ability on free kicks," said McGill head coach Marc Mounicot. "She is able to bend the ball nicely."
Wilson, who now has two goals in the indoor season, hit the goal-post a few minutes later on a similar play and Hannah Simmons hit the crossbar on a nice header.
"Our second half was much better but could not finish our chances," added Mounicot. "We did not give UQTR any chances in the last 45 minutes and it appeared that we had possession of the ball for about 70 per cent of the time."
Goalkeeper Valerie Labbe made two saves to record her second shutout in as many games. Stephanie Rousseau, her counterpart had a strong game with 10 saves in a losing cause.
McGill plays at Concordia (2-1-1) on Sunday, Feb. 15. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
