Won 9-0 vs Bishop's
MONTREAL -- Striker Alexandra Morin-Boucher of Montreal scored four goals and added a helper as McGill skunked Bishop's 9-0 in CIS women's soccer action on Thursday night in Montreal. The physical and health education senior tallied the first two goals and added another pair in the late stages.
It was the most goals scored by the Martlets in 147 games overall, dating back to a similiar 9-0 whitewash over the Gaiters, also at Molson Stadium, on Oct. 15, 2004.
McGill, which had a 28-2 edge in shots toward the net, took a 3-0 halftime lead on Morin-Boucher's first two markers (11', 42') and a 44th-minute counter by junior Alexandra Armstrong of London, Ont.
The Martlets extended their lead with a pair of goals by Meghan Bourque (63', 64') of Burlington, Ont., singles by Alexandra Hoyte (67') of Laval, Que., and Stephanie Avery (73') of Tsawwassen, B.C., in addition to Morin-Boucher's final two goals (72', 79').
A combination of injuries and academic commitments rendered the Gaiters' top three goalkeepers unavailable for selection, forcing head coach Phil Ribaux to hand the gloves to rookie defender Juliana Miele of Blainville, Que. She made six saves in her first-ever CIS start.
For McGill, Shimone Slomowitz, a senior from West Vancouver, B.C., needed only one save to register the shutout.
The Gaiters (0-7-2) are next in action on Sunday afternoon, as they visit the UQTR Patriotes (3-2-3) in Trois-Rivières, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. McGill, which improved to 5-2-2, is also in action on Sunday, as they visit Sherbrooke in a 3 p.m. start.
