MONTREAL -- The top-ranked Montreal Carabins took advantage of
three goals on set plays and blanked McGill 3-0 in women's soccer
at Stade CEPSUM, Sunday.
"We had a good start, controled the play and did not concede any
kind of territorial advantage but they scored on their first and
second corner kicks." said McGill head coach Marc Mounicot.
"We knew that they have a very high percentage of success on set
plays but a lack of concentration combined with poor marking cost
us the game. Even despite having more possession time with the
ball, we did not generate any constructive and dangerous scoring
opportunities."
The Martlets, who fell to 6-3-1 with two games remaining, now
sit fourth in the eight-team Quebec conference. Montreal leads the
league with a perfect 10-0 record but second-place is still up for
grabs as only two points seperate Laval (7-3-0), Sherbrooke (6-2-20
and the Martlets, who have clinched a playoff berth ahead of
fifth-place UQTR (3-5-2).
McGill will head to the nation's capital on Oct. 21 to play the
No.5-ranked Ottawa Gee-gees in a non-conference encounter before
resuming regular-season play at home to Concordia on Oct. 23.
