MONTREAL – Swimmers Samuel Wang of Sherbrooke, Que., and Jessica Warrack from Rocky View, Alta., are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Nov. 20, 2016.
 
Wang, a 20-year-old biochemistry freshman, broke McGill and RSEQ records and reached the CIS qualifying standard while winning two gold medals as the Redmen finished first of seven teams at the Kemp-Fry invitational meet, held at Dalhousie University in Halifax last weekend. The 5-foot-9, 152-pound sprinter swam the fastest time in the country this year in the 50-metre butterfly, clocking in at 23.85 seconds to break his own McGill record (24.40) and the RSEQ mark (23.96) set earlier this year. He also won the 100 butterfly in 53.54 and was fourth in the 100 free (51:14). He joined McGill this fall out of Collège de Sherbrooke
 
Warrack, a 20-year-old chemical engineering junior, won a pair of gold medals as the Martlets scored 731 points to finish second of seven teams behind Dalhousie (910) in the women's division at the Kemp-Fry meet in Halifax. She posted national qualifying times to win the 200 individual medley (2:19.73) and the 400 IM (4:49.30). The 5-foot-5 distance specialist also qualified for nationals in the 800 freestyle with a second-place finish and personal best time of 8:56.27. A product of the Killarney Swim Club, she enrolled at McGill in 2014 from the National Sport School.in Calgary.
