MONTREAL -- Rocky Hroch of Temecula, Calif., and Sofia Butseva of Burke, Va., are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Sept. 25, 2016.
 
Hroch, a six-foot, 165-pound right-handed pitcher with the baseball Redmen, tossed a no-hitter as McGill defeated the Université de Montréal 13-1 in a game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule last Friday at Ahuntsic Park in north-end Montreal. Hroch, a 20-year-old international management junior, allowed no earned runs, struck out six and walked two. He threw 65 pitches -- 44 of them for strikes -- and registered nine ground ball outs in addition to only one fly ball. Hroch attended Vista Murrieta high school in California before enrolling at McGill in 2014.
 
Butseva, a 5-foot-6 distance runner with the cross-country Martlets, finished first of 59 competitors at the Sherbrooke Invitational meet last Saturday. The 18-year-old agricultural and environmental science freshman posted a time of 22 minutes, 59.9 seconds, completing the six-kilometre circuit 11 seconds faster than her nearest rival. She is a product of Lake Braddock Secondary School in Virginia.
