MONTREAL – Swimmers Elizabeth Ling of Calgary, Alta., and Loïc Courville-Fortin of Repentigny, Que.,, are the McGill University athletes of the week, presented by Restaurant Poulet Rouge, for the period ending Feb. 16, 2025.

Ling, a 22-year-old civil engineering senior, was named female athlete of the meet with six gold medals as the No. 4 ranked McGill Martlets captured their fifth consecutive RSEQ championship on Sunday, to conclude a three-day competition held at the CEPSUM pool on the campus of Universite de Montreal. The 5-foot-4 middle distance specialist won the 50-metre freestyle (0:25.72), the 50 backstroke (0:28.76) and the 100 back (0:55.77). In addition, she helped the team by competing on three winning relays: the 4x50 free (1:43.75), the 4x100 free (3:48.48) and the 4x100 medley relay (4:09.82).

Courville-Fortin, a 20-year-old biochemistry freshman, won five gold medals, broke a conference record and was named male athlete of the meet as the No. 4 ranked McGill Redbirds cruised to their fifth consecutive RSEQ championship over the weekend. He broke the school and RSEQ record in the 200-metre individual medley, posting a time of one minute, 59.33 seconds. That erased the mark of 1:59.56 which was held by McGill grad Clement Secchi. Courville-Fortin, a short-and middle-distance sprinter who measures 6-foot-1, also won the 100 backstroke (0:53.27), the 200 back (1:57.16), and was on two winning relays: the 4x100 medley relay (3:39.37) and 4x100 free (3:22.16). He was seventh in the 200 freestyle.

McGill athlete of the week award recipients receive a gift certificate from Poulet Rouge, serving healthy and nutritious meals since 2017. All students can get a 15% discount at the Poulet Rouge McGill location upon presentation of their student ID card.
