Brandon Frattaroli of Pierrefonds, Que., and
Victoria Iannotti of St. Laurent, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending on Nov. 27, 2022.
Frattaroli, a 5-foot-11, 196-pound centre with the McGill men’s hockey team, earned points on five of the eight goals scored by the Redbirds over two games last weekend. The 22-year-old industrial relations sophomore registered a natural hat-trick, including the game-winner, in a 4-1 come-from-behind victory over second-place Ontario Tech in Montreal on Saturday. A day earlier, he scored once and assisted on another goal in a 5-4 overtime shootout loss at Carleton. The Redbirds earned three of a possible four points to move into sole possession of second place in the OUA East with an 8-3-3 record. Frattaroli enrolled at McGill in 2021 after skating in the QMJHL with stints in Baie Comeau, Quebec and Gatineau.
Iannotti, a 5-foot-9 power-hitter on the McGill women’s volleyball squad, scored a game-high 16.5 points as the Martlets defeated visiting Sherbrooke 25-22, 25-15, 24-26 and 25-23 on Sunday. The result moved McGill into second place in the RSEQ conference with a 6-2 record. Iannotti, a 23-year-old software engineering senior, registered her points on the strength of 15 kills, one service ace and three assisted stuff blocks over four sets. On defence, she contributed five digs. Iannotti, a co-captain played her CEGEP volleyball at College Bois-de-Boulogne before joining the university ranks in 2019.
