Allan Swetman

Allan Swetman

Allan Swetman was appointed head coach of the McGill University women's rugby team in 2021. He was an assistant coach at McGill in 2019-20 and has also served as head coach of the Westmount Rugby Club since 2018.
 
Swetman is originally from New Zealand, where he played rugby and cricket. He has been in Montreal since 2014 and started officiating as a World Rugby Level 2 accredited referee for Rugby Quebec in 2016.
 
During his first stint with the Martlets in 2019, Swetman's focus was on set pieces from the scrum and line-outs, as well as on defence and catch-pass-run plays.

Swetman earned a diploma in advanced sports management in 2008 from the New Zealand Institute of Sport. He is in the online process of completing a bachelor of sports and exercise, majoring in sports development, from Massey University in New Zealand.
 
Swetman replaced Magalie Harvey at McGill, who stepped down after the 2019 season. He is the 14th person to coach the team, a group that includes Mike Perkins (1988), Stephen Kaplan (1989-1992), Robert Buffam (1993), Sam Lupton & Sharon Jeffries (1994), Dominic Schofield (1995), Linda Miller (1996), Greg Fennlon (1997), Vince DeGrandpre & Lee Bieber (1998-2000), Vince DeGrandpre (2001-2011), John Lavery (2012-2013), Matt Stephens (2014-2016) and Magali Harvey (2017-2019).
