2014-15 Men's Hockey Roster
Biography
After being drafted in the first round (5th overall) of the 2005 Western Hockey League's bantam draft, Prokop narrowed his focus to pursing a career in professional hockey. He moved away at 16 and went on to play five seasons of major junior hockey spending time with the Moose Jaw Warriors, Regina Pats and Tri-City Americans. Â
Prokop was ranked 95th overall among North American skaters for the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and received a free-agent tryout with the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets the following season. At age 20, he suffered a badly broken femur that ultimately limited further prof hockey opportunities. Â
Prokop obtained his Bachelors of Kinesiology in 2013 from the University of Manitoba, where he played in two exhibition games for the Bisons in 2011-12.
He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Biomechanics at McGill University.Â
He is certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association and has credentials from the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Performance Enhancement Specialist. Prokop is also a trained multi-sport competition development coach from the Coaching Association of Canada and certified as a Level 2 by Functional Movement Systems.Â
He has worked as a research assistant at UManitoba, an assistant strength and conditioning coach with Sport Manitoba and is currently assessing protective sporting equipment (performance and injury prevention) with the Applied Ice Hockey research group at McGill.
