Sébastien Lévesque joined the McGill football coaching staff in 2015 with a full-time post as special teams and recruiting coordinator. A former stand-out running back with the Laval Rouge et Or, the 29-year-old native of Brossard, Que., previously served for three years as an assistant coach at the CEGEP level with Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy in Quebec City.
In his playing days, the 5-foot-10, 205-pound tailback was a two-time RSEQ conference all-star in four seasons with Laval, scoring 22 touchdowns in 24 regular season games. He rushed for a CIS career 2,715 yards on 316 carries for an impressive 8.6 yard average.
Lévesque merited CIS All-Canadian second-team status in 2011, rushing for a school single-season record 1,059 yards and scoring 10 TDs in nine games. In four playoff contests that year, Lévesque added another 591 rushing yards and five majors. He was named Game MVP of the 2011 Dunsmore Cup league championship, rushing for 197 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a 30-7 victory over the Montreal Carabins, including an 85-yard TD run. It was five yards shy of his Dunsmore Cup record, set against Concordia in 2008, when he broke free for a 90-yard TD run.
In the 2011 Vanier Cup game, a 41-38 overtime loss to McMaster, for 136 yards on 17 carries and a TD.
He led the Rouge et Or to the 2010 Vanier Cup national championship, with a 29-2 victory over Calgary, earning Game MVP honours with 172 rushing yards on 30 carries, including a 41-yard TD romp.
Before starring for Laval, he played high school football at Curé-Antoine-Labelle, then joined the CEGEP league with College Beauce-Appalaches. He attended a tryout camp with the Toronto Argonauts in 2012 and helped guide Canada to the 2015 world senior championship in Ohio.
During his CEGEP years, he trained to be a firefighter, following in the footsteps of his father.
