Jesse Briggs, a 34-year-old native of Kelowna, B.C., is a McGill football grad and two-time Grey Cup champion who retired from pro football in 2024. He played 10 years in the CFL with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, where he appeared in four Grey Cup games, winning championship rings in 2019 and 2021. A second-round selection (17th overall) by Winnipeg in the 2014 CFL Draft, Briggs played 134 career regular season CFL games and was credited with 51 defensive tackles, 76 special teams tackles, one forced fumble and four fumble recoveries, including an 83-yard return for touchdown in a game in Toronto on Aug. 21, 2022.
Briggs played four seasons at McGill after he was recruited out of Vanier College. His final season in the university ranks was in 2013 and he later returned to graduate in 2022 with a degree physical and health education. In 35 career contests with McGill, Briggs was credited with 118 total tackles, including 94 solos, 16.5 for loss and six quarterback sacks. He added a pair of interceptions, five knockdowns and a forced fumble. He won the Friends of McGill Football Trophy as the team's most outstanding defensive player in 2013.
