Martlet Soccer Priorities

A note from Coach Valdes

Dear Alumni and Friends,

The Martlet soccer program has had a very successful conference record from the day we started competing in the CIS. Yet on the national stage - even though we have come very close on several occasions - we have yet to win the CIS title.

We are looking to build our alumni program and create a network of support not only for our current players but for our alumni as well. Our soccer family may be smaller than those of other teams but we are going change that, which is why we're asking for your involvement.

McGill University is among the best schools in North America, admitting some of the top students to its ranks. There are but a privileged few that have both the grades and the soccer skills to represent McGill on the soccer field. With the help of a few key alumni and the support of our Athletics  and Recreation department, Martlet soccer has so far been able to provide a unique experience for its players, but we are now looking to take our program to the next level.

Our Fundraising Priorities

  • Athletic Financial Awards - $30,000
To improve our program’s recruitment process, we would like the opportunity to offer two additional players AFAs for the length of their studies at McGill. This will help ensure that not only do we attract the best female soccer players, but also the ones with high academic levels

  • Locker Room Update - $100,000
In a shared project with Redmen Soccer, we are looking to build new team rooms which includes securing permanent winter facilities for our soccer teams within our Sport Complex.

  • Team Building Fund - $3,000
This past fall, our program held its first annual serious team building activity in which players spent three days in the woods building their own shelter and preparing their own food under the supervision of a few guides. Activities such as this are crucial to a team’s success, however, the program has traditionally only ever been able to invest a few hoursinto team building. A yearly $3,000 investment will allow us to offer a quality activity to all of our players and set the tone for a successful season.
