MONTREAL — Second-ranked Concordia navigated a barrage of penalties and leaned on timely offence to earn a 4–2 victory over visiting McGill in RSEQ women's university hockey Friday at Ed Meagher Arena.

The Stingers killed off seven of eight McGill power plays — including three stretches where they were down two players — and outshot the Martlets 33–22 . Concordia finished 1-for-4 on the power play..

Taylor Garcia scored both McGill goals, a personal best over her three seasons with the Martlets. The junior from Ottawa, who studies mathematics and economics, raised her season total to five goals and her career mark to 15 in 76 games overall.

Garcia opened the scoring late in the first period, converting a feed from Syrine Kacem. Concordia answered early in the second on goals from Alexis Bédier and Jessymaude Drapeau to take control of the game.

After a scoreless middle stretch dominated by special teams, Garcia struck again on the power play at 5:41 of the third period, with helpers from Anika Cormier and Madison D'Souza, briefly pulling McGill back within one. Concordia responded with a power-play goal by Emilie Lussier at 8:34 of the third stanza, that proved to be the game winner.Lussier also had another golden opportunity to score but was stymied on a penalty shot at 17:13 of the second period.

Courtney Rice added an insurance marker late to seal the result. Goaltender Jordyn Verbeek made 20 saves to earn the win for the Stingers. McGill netminder Jade Rivard-Coulombe turned aside 28 shots in defeat.

Since women's hockey was sanctioned with a national championship in 1997, these longtime rivals have now met 171 times. McGill's lifetime record against Concordia stands at 90-76-5. The teams will quickly renew the rivalry Sunday, with Concordia (12-1-0) visiting McGill (1-7-5) for a 3 p.m. puck drop at McConnell Arena.
