MONTREAL – Laval struck three times in the first half en route to a 4-0 shutout over McGill in RSEQ men's soccer action, Sunday afternoon at Percival Molson Stadium.

It was Laval highest offensive output against McGill since a 4-1 decision in Quebec City on Sept. 16, 2018.

Baptiste Toussaint opened the scoring in the 24th minute before teammate Olivier Villeneuve, doubled the lead just three minutes later. Lukumbi Tshindaye then converted a penalty kick in the 38th minute to make it 3-0 at halftime. Victor Chiasson rounded out the scoring with a 60th-minute marker .

McGill, now 0-2-0, generated most of its nine shot attempts in the second half, led by forward Luke Rosettani, a first-year transfer from UNB, who accounted for six attempts. 

Senior goalkeeper Ludovyck Ciociola of Montreal, went the distance for McGill and faced 13 shots on net, turning aside nine in a gritty performance. At the other end, Laval's Romain Bartoli of France stopped all three attempts he faced to earn the clean sheet .

The Rouge et Or had a 16-9 edge in attempted shots, included a 13-3 margin on net and held a 7-2 edge in corner kicks. The match featured a physical but disciplined pace, with six fouls assessed to Laval and five to McGill. No yellow or red cards were issued by referee Elliot Furblur .

Despite the setback, McGill can draw positives from its improved second-half push, where the Redbirds generated seven of their nine shots.

Laval (1-2-0) will look to carry momentum into its next contest when they host Sherbrooke on Sept. 12. McGill (0-2-0) aims to regroup at home when they welcome UQAM on Sept. 12 at Molson Stadium.

Laval gâche le match d'ouverture à domicile des Redbirds en soccer masculin

Le gardien de McGill, Ciociola, effectue neuf arrêts dans une cause perdue

MONTRÉAL – Laval a marqué trois fois en première mi-temps pour finalement l'emporter 4-0 contre McGill dans le cadre d'un match de soccer masculin du RSEQ, dimanche après-midi au stade Percival Molson.

Il s'agit de la meilleure performance offensive de Laval contre McGill depuis sa victoire 4-1 à Québec le 16 septembre 2018.

Baptiste Toussaint a ouvert le pointage à la 24e minute, avant que son coéquipier Olivier Villeneuve ne double l'avance trois minutes plus tard. Lukumbi Tshindaye a ensuite converti un penalty à la 38e minute pour porter le score à 3-0 à la mi-temps. Victor Chiasson a complété le score avec un but à la 60e minute.

McGill, qui affiche désormais un bilan de 0-2-0, a généré la plupart de ses neuf tirs au but en deuxième mi-temps, mené par l'attaquant Luke Rosettani, un transfert de première année de l'UNB, qui a tenté six tirs.

Le gardien senior Ludovyck Ciociola, de Montréal, a joué tout le match pour McGill et a affronté 13 tirs au but, en repoussant neuf dans une performance courageuse. Le Rouge et Or a dominé 16-9 au niveau des tirs tentés, dont 13-3 au niveau des tirs cadrés, et 7-2 au niveau des corners. Le match s'est déroulé à un rythme physique mais discipliné, avec six fautes sifflées contre Laval et cinq contre McGill. Aucun carton jaune ou rouge n'a été distribué par l'arbitre Elliot Furblur.

Malgré ce revers, McGill peut tirer des enseignements positifs de son amélioration en deuxième mi-temps, au cours de laquelle les Redbirds ont généré sept de leurs neuf tirs.

Laval (1-2-0) cherchera à poursuivre sur sa lancée lors de son prochain match à domicile contre Sherbrooke, le 12 septembre. McGill (0-2-0) tentera de se ressaisir à domicile lorsqu'il accueillera l'UQAM le 12 septembre au stade Molson.
