SHERBROOKE, Que. — Neither side could break through as the McGill Redbirds and Sherbrooke Vert & Or battled to a scoreless draw in RSEQ men's soccer action Friday.
Both teams had limited opportunities, with Sherbrooke holding a slim 3-2 edge in shots on net. McGill goalkeeper Ludovyk Ciociola turned aside all three attempts faced in the full 90 minutes, while counterpart Édouard Bazinet replied with two saves at the other end to preserve the clean sheet.
The contest saw plenty of physical play, with five yellow cards issued — four against McGill and one to Sherbrooke. The Redbirds' cautions went to Luke Manara-Berryman (10th minute), Pedro Gulli (49th), Gustave Therrien-Berry (61st) and Maher Fares (90th). For Sherbrooke, Jean Kinumbe was booked in the 19th minute. No red cards were assessed.
The result left McGill at 1-2-2, three points behind Sherbrooke, which improved to 2-1-2. The Vert & Or will visit Laval on Sept. 21 at 4:30 p.m., while McGill returns to action Sept. 25 when they host Montreal at Percival Molson Stadium in an 8:15 p.m. start.
