VICTORIA, BC –
Sonia Dunn of Ottawa collected a pair of silver medals and one bronze as McGill finished second of 15 teams at the Canadian University Artistic Swim League national championship, Sunday, to conclude a three-day competition at the Saanich Commonwealth Centre on Vancouver Island.
UBC captured the Gerry Dubrule Trophy for the second time in four years to wrestle away the overall title from defending champion McGill, which leads all schools with 17 national banners.
The Martlets combined for five podiums at the meet, including three silvers and a pair of bronzes. Over their three league meets this season, the McGill women have tallied six gold medals, five silvers and six bronzes.
The final team standings are not yet available but scoring is based upon points earned from solo, duet and team routines, in both the experienced and novice divisions.
Lindsay Duncan, in her 12th year as Martlets head coach, won the Anne Smeeton Award for significant and meaningful contribution to the CUASL. Duncan, who also teaches in the faculty of kinesiology and physical education, is the fifth McGillian to win this award and the first since
Lily Dong in 2020.
Dunn, a 19-year-old science sophomore in her first year with the team, was second in the experienced solo routine (164.3563), an event won by UBC's
Claire Hein-Salvi (168.5850).

Clara Thomas, a science junior from Ottawa. The gold medal went to UBC's pair of Gu and Marissa Enns (177.4063), while the bronze medal was awarded to McGill duo of
Kayla Drew, a kinesiology sophomore from Chilliwack, B.C., and
Alexa Vaillancourt (164.4146), a kinesiology sophomore from Newton, Mass.
The John Drake Trophy, presented to the winner of the experienced team event, went to Queen's (199.0563), which finished atop the podium, ahead of UBC (198.0467) and McGill (194.7733). The result snapped UBC's three-year win streak.
