KINGSTON, ONT –
Sonia Dunn of Ottawa captured a pair of gold medals and one silver to pace McGill at the Canadian University Artistic Swim League's Eastern Divisional Meet, held Feb. 8, on the campus at Queen's University.
McGill swimmers combined for five podiums at the meet, including a pair of bronzes.
Dunn, a science sophomore in her first season with the team, won gold in the experienced solo freestyle routine, while teammate
Clara Thomas, a science junior from Ottawa, registered a bronze medal performance. Dunn scored 163.1363 points, easily outdistancing silver medalist
Sarah Taylor from Queen's (125.5400), while Thomas tallied 124.6613.
In the duet routine, Dunn teamed up with Thomas to produce a golden result with 159.3471 points, to finish atop the podium, ahead of Ottawa (140.1504) and Queen's (135.5442).
In the team routine, Dunn and her teammates finished second with 158.4575, behind Queen's (160.5800), while McMaster collected bronze with 147.8188.
In the novice division, McGill's
Aya Shaban collected a bronze medal in the solo technical routine, with a score of 113.3667 points, finishing behind second-place Waterloo (116.0442) and first-place Ottawa (116.7750).
McGill had no entry in the novice duet routine, which was won by Waterloo (126.4992), followed by Carleton (122.1217) and Toronto (119.6175).
In the novice team routine, McGill finished fourth with 107.6933. The podium spots went to McMaster (109.9617), Carleton (109.7767) and Toronto (108.7283).
McGill, the defending national title holders, will be looking for its 18th lifetime banner at the final meet of the season, the CUASL championship, scheduled to be held March 21-23, at Saanich Commonwealth Place in Victoria, B.C.
