MONTREAL — Swimmer Rebecca McGrath of the McGill Martlets and UQAM basketball player McFadden Jean are the RSEQ university athletes of the week, presented by Go Pure, for the period ending Nov. 9, 2025.

McGrath, a 19-year-old science freshman from Pointe Claire, Que., broke two records while winning three gold medals and a silver, to merit swimmer of the meet honours at the third RSEQ University Cup meet, held in Ottawa last Saturday. She helped the Martlets finish first of six teams. The six-foot sprinter broke both the RSEQ and McGill record in the 50m backstroke (27.53) while leading off the 4×50 medley relay. Her performance erased the Quebec university mark of 27.57 and the school record of 27.95. McGrath and her teammates won that relay in a record-breaking 1:51.97, shattering the previous McGill standard of 1:53.74 set in 2022 and matched in 2024. McGrath also swept the 50- and 100-metre backstrokes (28.06 and 1:01.04) and swam the anchor leg in the silver-medal winning 4×50 freestyle relay. 


Jean, a 26-year-old finance senior from St. Hubert, Que., scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds in UQAM's 66-62 victory over visiting Concordia on Nov. 6. The  6-foot-1 point-guard shot 5-for-11 from the field, including a 3-for-5 performance from the three-point arc, and was 1-for-2 from the free-throw line. He added four assists and a pair of steals.

McGill athletes have now won eight RSEQ weekly awards this semester, a group that includes swimmer Loïc Courville-Fortin (Oct. 14) and soccer's Lefika Noko (Oct. 7), in addition to five football players Eloa Latendresse-Regimbald (Aug. 5), Mathis Pilon (Aug. 24), Mario Dellifraine (Sept. 7),  Jerry Momo (Sept. 21) and Philippe Bouthot (Sept. 21)

Une nageuse de McGill nommé parmi les athlètes universitaires de la semaine du RSEQ

MONTRÉAL — La nageuse Rebecca McGrath des Martlets de McGill et le basketteur McFadden Jean de l'UQAM sont les athlètes universitaires de la semaine du RSEQ, présentés par Go Pure, pour la période se terminant le 9 novembre 2025.

McGrath, une étudiante de première année en sciences âgée de 19 ans originaire de Pointe-Claire, au Québec, a battu deux records tout en remportant trois médailles d'or et une d'argent, ce qui lui a valu le titre de nageuse de la rencontre lors de la troisième Coupe universitaire du RSEQ, qui s'est tenue à Ottawa samedi dernier. Elle a aidé les Martlets à terminer premières sur six équipes. La sprinteuse qui mesure 6 pieds a battu les records du RSEQ et de McGill au 50 m dos (27,53) en tête du relais 4 × 50 m quatre nages. Sa performance a effacé le record universitaire du Québec de 27,57 et le record de l'école de 27,95. McGrath et ses coéquipières ont remporté ce relais avec un temps record de 1:51,97, pulvérisant l'ancienne marque de McGill de 1:53,74 établie en 2022 et égalée en 2024. McGrath a également remporté les 50 et 100 mètres dos (28,06 et 1:01,04) et a nagé la dernière longueur du relais 4 × 50 mètres nage libre qui a remporté la médaille d'argent.

Jean, un étudiant de 26 ans en finance originaire de Saint-Hubert, au Québec, a marqué 14 points et capté cinq rebonds lors de la victoire 66-62 de l'UQAM contre Concordia le 6 novembre. Le meneur de jeu qui mesure 6 pieds, un pouce, a réussi 5 tirs sur 11, dont 3 sur 5 à trois points, et 1 sur 2 sur la ligne des lancers francs. Il a ajouté quatre passes décisives et deux interceptions.

Les athlètes de McGill ont désormais remporté huit prix hebdomadaires du RSEQ ce semestre, parmi lesquels le nageur Loïc Courville-Fortin (14 octobre) et le joueur de soccer Lefika Noko (7 octobre), en plus des cinq joueurs de football Éloa Latendresse-Régimbald (5 août), Mathis Pilon (24 août), Mario Dellifraine (7 septembre), Jerry Momo (21 septembre) et Philippe Bouthot (21 septembre).
