MONTREAL — Goalkeeper Ludovyck Ciociola turned aside all 10 shots he faced to help McGill earn a gritty 0-0 draw with the undefeated and No. 10 ranked UQTR Patriotes in RSEQ men's soccer, Thursday night at Percival Molson Stadium.

The tie kept UQTR (6-0-3) atop the standings, one point ahead of second-place Montreal (6-2-2). Meanwhile, McGill (3-3-4) extended its undefeated streak to three and moved into a tie with Sherbrooke (3-2-4) for the fourth and final playoff berth in the seven-team conference, two points behind Laval (5-4-0). Although, Sherbrooke holds a game in hand over the Redbirds, who have two matches left to play.

UQTR carried much of the play, outshooting McGill 12-4 overall and 10-1 in shots on target, but Ciociola stood tall throughout the 90 minutes, repeatedly frustrating a potent Patriotes attack led by Émile Boivin and Alexandre Marcoux, who combined for nine of their side's shots. His effort preserved McGill's third consecutive shutout and fifth of the campaign.

At the other end, UQTR keeper Mathieu Lacharité made one save for his league-leading sixth shutout of the season, turning aside a low drive from Pedro Gulli early in the first half.

Both teams finished with five fouls apiece, while McGill held a slim 4-3 edge in corner kicks. The match featured four yellow cards — UQTR's Marcoux (29th minute) and Pierre-Antoine Palac (83rd), along with McGill's Yannick Laurent (83rd) and a team caution two minutes later.

The Redbirds will travel to Trois-Rivières on Sunday (Oct. 12) for a critical rematch against the Pats, a make-up for the weather-postponed Aug. 29 contest, before closing out the regular season at home to Sherbrooke on Oct. 17.

MONTRÉAL — Le gardien Ludovyck Ciociola a repoussé les 10 tirs qu'il a affrontés pour aider McGill à obtenir un match nul 0-0 contre les Patriotes de l'UQTR, invaincus et classés 10e au classement du RSEQ en soccer masculin, jeudi soir au stade Percival Molson.

Ce match nul permet à l'UQTR (6-0-3) de rester en tête du classement, avec un point d'avance sur Montréal (6-2-2), deuxième. De son côté, McGill (3-3-4) a prolongé sa série d'invincibilité à trois matchs et se retrouve à égalité avec Sherbrooke (3-2-4) pour la quatrième et dernière place en séries éliminatoires dans cette conférence à sept équipes, à deux points derrière Laval (5-4-0). Sherbrooke a toutefois un match en moins que les Redbirds, qui ont encore deux matchs à disputer.

L'UQTR a dominé le jeu, devançant McGill 12-4 au total et 10-1 au nombre de tirs cadrés, mais Ciociola s'est montré intraitable tout au long des 90 minutes, repoussant à plusieurs reprises les puissantes attaques des Patriotes menées par Émile Boivin et Alexandre Marcoux, qui ont combiné neuf des tirs de leur équipe. Ses efforts ont permis à McGill de remporter son troisième blanchissage consécutif et son cinquième de la saison.

À l'autre bout du terrain, le gardien de l'UQTR, Mathieu Lacharité, a effectué un arrêt pour son sixième blanchissage de la saison, le meilleur total de la ligue, en repoussant un tir à ras de terre de Pedro Gulli en début de première mi-temps.

Les deux équipes ont terminé avec cinq fautes chacune, tandis que McGill a pris un léger avantage 4-3 au niveau des corners. Quatre cartons jaunes ont été distribués au cours du match : à Marcoux (29e minute) et Pierre-Antoine Palac (83e) de l'UQTR, ainsi qu'à Yannick Laurent (83e) de McGill, suivi d'un avertissement collectif deux minutes plus tard.

Les Redbirds se rendront à Trois-Rivières dimanche 12 octobre pour un match retour crucial contre les Pats, en remplacement du match reporté le 29 août en raison des conditions météorologiques, avant de terminer la saison régulière à domicile contre Sherbrooke le 17 octobre.
