MONTREAL — Four different players recorded hat tricks as McGill tightened its hold atop the CUFLA East on Saturday night, cruising to a 17–9 win over the visiting Bishop's Gaiters in men's university field lacrosse action at Percival Molson Stadium.

The result extended McGill's win streak over Bishop's to 14 straight games since a 12–11 triple-overtime loss to the Gaiters on Sept. 21, 2017. The Redbirds improved to 7–2 and now hold a four-point lead over second-place Trent (5–2-0), which has two games in hand.

McGill came out firing, building a 5-2 lead after the opening quarter and stretching it to 9-3 at halftime before coasting through a 5-2 third frame and trading goals in a 3-4 final quarter. The Redbirds outshot Bishop's 21-19 overall and took nine penalties to the Gaiters' two.

Torsten Blodgett led McGill with four goals, while Rowan Birrell had three goals and two assists for a five-point outing. Joshua Jewell and Mark Symon also scored three times apiece and added an assist, and Liam Miletich chipped in two goals and two helpers. John Miraglia added a pair of goals..

For Bishop's, Austin Nichol and Joshua McGrath each recorded hat tricks, with McGrath adding an assist. Emmett Legault, Joel Sweet, Alexander Lizotte and Maxwell Chiarella rounded out the scoring.

In goal, Brennan Visokey earned the win for McGill, allowing four goals over 33 minutes before giving way to Sol Chung, who surrendered five in relief. Nathan George went the distance for Bishop's, facing all 21 McGill shots and taking the loss.

The Redbirds' balanced attack and fast start proved too much for Bishop's, which managed to cut into the deficit only in the closing quarter. With the win, McGill stayed in control of its own destiny atop the CUFLA East as the postseason approaches.

McGill can clinch the division pennant with a win over visiting Carleton (2-3-1) in its regular-season finale on Oct. 23. Bishop's dropped to 3-4-0 but can still finish as high as second. The Gaiters visit Trent in Peterborough, Ont., on Oct. 18.
