MONTREAL – The 2025 Quebec university football schedule has been announced by the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec and the McGill Redbirds will begin their 154th year of operation on Aug.15 at 6 p.m. when the Toronto Varsity Blues visit Percival Molson Stadium for a preseason game.
It will mark the earliest start ever for McGill – surpassing the Aug. 17, 2018 kickoff against Laurier – and the first rendezvous between these old foes since 2015, renewing a 144-year-old rivalry that dates back to 1881.
Five of McGill's nine games will be a "Friday Night Lights" match-up and the remaining dates will be on a Saturday. The RSEQ league schedule features two bye weeks and will be highlighted with 11 games broadcast nationally by TVA Sports, the French language cable network, which includes a pair of McGill appearances.
Head coach
Alex Surprenant and his troops are slated to kickoff the regular season on Aug. 22 with a Sherbrooke-McGill confrontation at Molson Stadium. The Redbirds then hit the road for a televised affair on Aug. 30 at Laval, the defending Dunsmore Cup and Vanier Cup champions.
Week 3 features a short jaunt across town to Concordia on Sept. 5, followed by a bye week, before returning home to confront the Montreal Carabins on Sept. 19. A road trip to Sherbrooke is next with a televised matinee on Sept. 27, followed by a road game against the Carabins on Oct. 4. Next on tap is a visit by Laval to the McGill campus on Oct. 10 and after another bye week, the regular season concludes on Oct. 25 with the McGill Homecoming Game and a visit from Concordia in the 56th edition of the Shaughnessy Cup.
The semifinals are set for Nov. 1, followed by the Dunsmore Cup league championship game (Nov. 8), the national semifinal Uteck Bowl (Nov. 15) and the Vanier Cup (Nov. 22) at Mosaic Stadium in Regina.
Information on season tickets will be announced at a later date.
