Victoria Iannotti of the McGill women's volleyball team and
Haris Elezovic, a McGill basketball graduate now playing for Laval, are the RSEQ University athletes of the week, sponsored by Go Pure, for the period ending Feb. 4, 2024. Student-athletes from McGill have now won 11 conference and five national weekly awards during the 2023-24 season.
Iannotti, a 5-foot-9 power-hitter from St. Laurent, Que., scored 28.5 points over six sets as the No.10-ranked McGill Martlets extended their win streak to four with a 3-0 victory over UQTR at home on Friday (Feb. 2), followed by a 3-0 win at UQAM on Sunday (Feb. 4). The results put McGill in a three-way tie for first place with a 13-5 record in the eight-team RSEQ conference. Iannotti, a 24-year-old software engineering senior, registered her points on the strength of 23 kills, four service aces and three assisted stuff blocks. On defence, she contributed 14 digs and one assist. A co-captain with the Martlets.
Elezovic, an MBA student at Laval who studied commerce at McGill's Desautels School of Management last spring, combined for 34 points and 38 rebounds in a pair of victories over first-place UQAM last week. The 6-foot-7 forward is a 21-year-old native of Sherbrooke, Que.
