Lea-Sophie Verret scored a game-high 11 points as the division-leading Laval Rouge et Or remained undefeated with a 56-44 victory over visiting McGill in RSEQ women's basketball at the Centre PEPS, Saturday.
The result improved Laval's record to 3-0 atop the RSEQ standings, while McGill dropped to 1-2.
Laval exploded out of the gate to take a 24-10 lead into the second quarter and moved into cruise control. It proved too much to overcome as the Martlets won the remainder of the game by a combined 34-32 margin.
Lily Rose Chatila paced the Martlets with 10 points, to go along with five rebounds, a pair of steals and one assist.
The Rouge et Or had a 35-31 edge in rebounding, a 12-7 margin in steals and a favourable 21-15 advantage in turnovers.
McGill shot 29.1 per cent from the field (16/55), with a 4-for-13 performance from three-point range. Laval responded with a 35 per cent success rate (21/60) and a 6-for-21 effort from beyond the arc. Both sides went an identical 8-for-13 from the free-throw line.
The Martlets will play at Bishop's (2-0) on Nov. 21 in a 6 p.m. tip-off. Laval returns to the court on Nov. 23 when they travel to Montreal to play Concordia (1-2).
