QUEBEC CITY – Distance runner
Sienna Matheson of the McGill women's cross-country team finished third of 81 runners overall but scored a second-place result in the university division at the Laval Invitational meet held Saturday on the Plains of Abraham.
The 20-year-old chemistry sophomore from Kingston, Ont., guided the Martlets to place third of six RSEQ schools at the meet. McGill was without the services of several runners, including the team's leading scorer
Sophie Courville, who were preoccupied with mid-term exams.
Laval finished first with 29 points, with runners placing third, fourth, fifth, eighth and ninth. UQTR was a distant second with 82 points, followed by McGill (83), Sherbrooke (93), UQAM (94) and UQAC (126).
UQAM's
Elisa Tripotin won the eight-kilometre race in 30 minutes, seven seconds. Joining her atop the podium was the aforementioned Matheson (30:34) and Laval's
Camille Boudreau (30:36)
The four other McGillians in the scoring was
Claire Brillon (16th, 32:32),
Charlotte Edge (20th, 33:30),
Ena Smallbegovic (22nd; 33:55) and
Mia Blackmore-Barnable (23rd; 34:01).
Next on tap is the Sherbrooke Invitational, the fourth of six races on the team's fall calendar, slated for Oct. 12.
