Ferocious Frattaroli pots pair as Redbirds rally past Paladins with seven-goal explosion in third period

LAVAL, Que. – Brandon Frattaroli of Carignan, Que., scored twice and added a helper to spark a seven-goal explosion in the third period as McGill cruised to o 7-2 triumph over Royal Military College at Place Bell, Friday.
 
It improved McGill's lifetime record over RMC to 79-10-4 since they first met way back in 1889. The third-period outburst was the most goals scored in a period by McGill in 11 years, dating back to a 9-3 home-ice victory over Concordia on Nov. 26, 2011, when the team tallied seven times in the final stanza.

The Redbirds, who had a resounding 55-19 edge in shots, found themselves trailing 1-0 after the first period and 2-0 after two. Then the cavalry finally showed up for the third stanza with six different players finding the back of the net.
 
Frattaroli connected at 6:08 of the third period to knot the score at 2-2, the then pulled out the dagger to put his troops ahead 5-2. He then drew an assist on defenceman's Xavier Bouchard first career OUA marker to round out the scoring at 16:27.
 
Other McGill marksmen included Charles Boutin, Charles-Antoine Dumont, Patrick Larkin and Alexis Morin. Replying for the Paladins was Bradley Blake and Noah Matulu.
 
RMC ended up 2-for-3 on the power-play, while McGill was 1-for-6.
 
Goaltender Fabio Iacobo kicked aside 17 of 19 shots for the victory, while RMC's Michael Davis made 48 saves in a losing cause.
 
The Paladins (1-6) will remain in town to play division-leading Concordia (6-0-1) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
 
McGill (3-3) will play its second of four consecutive home games at Place Bell on Nov. 1 when Ottawa (5-1) visits for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop in what will serve as the Friends of McGill Hockey Homecoming Weekend.
 
REDBIRDS RAP: Sniper William Rouleau registered one assist in his season debut after missing 13 games including the preseason, due to off-season surgery… The 23-year-old management junior led the team in scoring in each of his first two seasons and has a career record of 37-56-93 in 80 contests overall since joining the Redbirds in 2022.
