LENNOXVILLE, Que. –
Eve Atchampone scored 22 points and
Victoria Gauna registered a double-double as Bishop's defeated visiting McGill 80-67 in women's basketball at the Mitchell Gymnasium, Saturday.
BU was dressed in pink, instead of their usual purple colours, as part of the national Shoot for the Cure awareness and fundraising campaign for breast cancer. McGill hosted its "Pink Game" against the Gaiters last Thursday.
The result was McGill's second loss to the Gaiters in three days after BU halted the Martlets four-game win streak on Jan. 18. It also gave Bishop's bench boss Dianna Ros, a McGill grad, the season series with three wins in four head-to-head meetings with her alma mater.
Bishop's improved to 6-5 and jumped two points ahead of McGill (5-5), which holds a game in hand.
The Gaiters led 18-12 after the opening quarter and McGill narrowed the gap to 34-32 at halftime. BU then outscored the Martlets 26-23 in the third and 20-12 in the final stanza.
The key stat of the day was at the foul line, where Bishop's went 18-for-22, while McGill was 7-for-8.
Three Martlets reached double-digits in scoring, led by freshman
Seyna Diggs, a 6-foot-1 centre from Montreal, who tallied 17 points with eight rebounds. Teammates
Emma-Jane Scotten of Ottawa and sophomore
Stephy Tchoukuiegno of St. Laurent, Que., added 14 and 12 points, respectively.
For the Gaiters, Atchampone shot an impressive 9-for-14 from the floor and 3-for-3 from the free-throw line. Other leading scorers included Gauna with 18 points and 10 rebounds, in addition to
Jasmine Martel with 18 points.

With six games remaining before playoffs, beginning with a home-and-home series against winless UQAM (0-8) this week. The Citadins will host McGill on Thursday (Jan. 25) at 6 p.m., followed by the return match at Love Competition Hall on Saturday (Jan. 27 at 2 p.m.
