COTE ST. LUC, Que –
Sacha Remillard had four runs batted in and
Jett Jarvis added three RBIs as McGill outlasted Concordia 12-9 in a Quebec university baseball confrontation at Gary Carter Field, Wednesday.
It was the third rendezvous of the season between the bitter cross-town rivals and each meeting has been a wild, high scoring affair, with the Redbirds winning all three, including a 12-11 decision on Sept. 5 and a 10-9 conquest on Sept. 13.
McGill, which outhit Concordia 16-8, never trailed. They jumped into a 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning, led 6-2 after three, 7-3 after four and then exploded for five in the top of the sixth. But Concordia battled back with four in the bottom of the inning and added another pair in the seventh.
Remillard, an accounting sophomore from Lorraine, Que., batted 2-for-4 with a walk, a double and one run scored. Jarvis, a finance senior from Wyoming, Ont., went 3-for-5. Infielder
Daniel Zevnik, a management junior from Vaudreuil-Dorion, Que., was 3-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.
Starter
Caden Welch of Langley, B.C., registered the win for McGill, improving to 2-0. The six-foot, 185-pound kinesiology junior scattered a pair of hits and allowed two runs over four innings. He struck out five and walked five.
Braden Tennill of Frisco, Tex., and
Nathaniel Factor of Delta, B.C., mopped up in relief.
Concordia reliever
Vincenzo Cianci took the loss in relief of starter
Connor Melanson. The only multi-hit player for the Stingers was
Nathan Fletcher, who was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.
The same teams will cross paths again on Thursday (Sept. 21) at 7:30 p.m., a makeup date for Tuesday's postponement, at Gary Carter Field.
