MONTREAL –
Wikona Laloche scored twice to spark a five-goal outburst in the second period as the Montreal Carabins defeated McGill 6-1 in RSEQ women's university hockey, Sunday, at Arena CEPSUM.
The result avenged McGill's 4-1 win over the Carabins on Oct. 20. The Martlets dropped to 60-35 lifetime against Montreal, including a 12-6 run over the last 18 meetings.
U de M, which had a 36-18 advantage in shots, was held scoreless in the first period but a second-period onslaught had the home side ahead 5-1 after two.
Defenceman
Mia Giles, a science freshman from Hammonds Plains, N.S., was the lone McGill sniper. Her goal, at 9:57 of the middle stanza, tied the game at 1-1 but it was followed by four Montreal goals in an eight-minute span.
Rounding out the scoring for the Carabins was rearguard
Jade Picard, along with forwards
Camille Dumont,
Amelie Poire-Lehoux and
Mylene Lefebvre.
Goaltender
Aube Racine saved 17 of 18 shots for the win, while McGill freshman
Jade Rivard-Coulombe made 30 saves in a losing cause.
McGill was 0-for-1 on the power-play, while Montreal went 1-for-3.
Both teams return to the ice on Nov. 10, when Montreal (2-2-2) will host Ottawa (2-3-1) and Concordia (6-0-0) plays at McGill (2-4-0).
