MONTREAL – Defenceman
Alexandra-Anne Boyer scored the game-winner at 5:21 of the first period and goaltender
Jordyn Verbeek made 12 saves for a shutout as No. 1 ranked Concordia skated to a 2-0 victory over McGill to remain undefeated in RSEQ women's hockey at McConnell Arena, Friday.
The Stingers, who improved to 7-0-0, added an insurance marker when
Justine Yelle scored at 5:54 of the final stanza. Both goals were unassisted.
Concordia had a 23-12 edge in shots and McGill netminder
Sarah Carmichael, making her fourth start of the campaign but her first in regular season play, made 21 saves in a losing cause.
There were five penalties called in the game, all to the Stingers, who successfully killed off each of them. It marked the Martlets' first contest without an infraction since a 6-1 victory over the NCAA's Long Island University on Dec. 28, 2019, in a game played at Concordia's Theresa Humes tournament. Although records are incomplete, it appears to be McGill's first-ever penalty-free game in league play since women's hockey was recognized by the CIS (now U SPORTS) in 1997.
Both teams return to action on Nov. 12. Concordia (7-0-0) will play at Ottawa (2-3-1) in a 2 p.m. start, while McGill (2-5-0) plays at Bishop's (4-3-0) in a 3:30 p.m. puck-drop.
